One, two...ohhhh, not three nights in a row of USDA, FDA and DoD suggested minimum daily requirement of sleep. Just as I was winding down last night .... reading, droopy eyes, head nod, light off, leg spasm ... a very bright, rotating, flickering light was lighting up the room. I got up to see what was the matter, and what to my wondering eyes did appear? A city utility truck standing guard over the corner intersection where my house sits, while a front loader was cleaning up snow, while a dump truck was scampering back and forth emptying the loads somewhere. Well that all seems pretty straightforward.
The utility truck's flashing lights were the high intensity, strobe kind immediately and directly outside my bedroom window. The front loader did not have the decency to turn off its back up beeper, and the dump truck was of the loud, low diesel variety creating a noise that not even a pillow over the head can subdue. They worked until 4 a.m.
When I awoke in a daze later this morning, I stumbled to the window. The street and snow on it made a transformation undetectable. When I drove on it, there were signs of scrapings making our already completely passable two lane road an itsy bit wider. What on earth were they doing all night long? Getting OT and hazard duty pay I suppose. Nobody paid me for being on the nightshift.
hey.. i worked til about 4:30 last night too... and i used my high beam all the way home on top of the already bright land yacht bulbs... just to start the new year in as crank a mood as possible
